Intradiscal Electrothermal Therapy (IDET)

Today there are several procedures that can be performed without any hospital stay, no scarring, and most patients return to their normal lives within a few days. Intervertebral Disc has a tough fibrous tissue composing the outer layer called the annulus.  Normal aging and/or trauma can cause the annulus to tear or crack, damaging the tiny nerves inside it. Those damaged nerves can cause a host of other unpleasant maladies for the poor soul dealing with it. One option may be a minimally invasive procedure referred to as IDET or Intradiscal Electrothermal Therapy for the treatment of this condition.

To put is as simply as possible; your physician places a needle into the disc and threads a semi-rigid wire around the annulus. The wire is then heated in essence to “shrink-wrap” the annulus and allow for healing of those damaged nerves. All of this is done under anesthesia, so don’t worry, you won’t feel it.

Here at The Spine Center, we have a fully equipped and State of Florida Health Department certified operating room that has performed the IDET procedure on patients for over 10 years. We would love for you to come in and see if you are a candidate for this amazing treatment.
