EMG or Electrodiagnostic Testing

At The Spine Center we offer EMG or Electrodiagnostic Testing. We generally like to test with EMG for patients with nerve compression syndromes and other neurological problems. The testing confirms whether there is a possibility of nerve damage or it will rule it out.

Symptoms associated with necessary EMG testing:
1) Radiating or non-radiating paresthesia--- pins, needles, tingling, burning, numbness
2) Radiating pain into extremities

The complete testing profile consists of multiple tests which are designed to evaluate different portions of the nerves of the arms and legs. The tests involve subjecting the nerves to an electrical impulse to asses how the nerves conduct signals. Electrodes are placed on the skin to record and acquire information, such as the speed the signal travels and the amplitude of the signal. These evaluations can determine whether the nerve is normal or shows signs of damage.

The testing will provide a comprehensive profile which will be read by Dr. Theofilos, who will then consult with you to determine your treatment plan.
