What are Orthotics?
Orthotics are medical devices inserted into your shoe to help correct issues with foot and ankle alignment. Many conditions affecting the legs and hips are linked to problems with foot and ankle alignment. An orthotic is a brace to control the foot while standing or walking. When your foot is out of line it can create stress for the skeletal structures. It has been proven an unbalanced foot can cause problems as high in the kinetic chain as the cervical vertebrae.
What are the Advantages of Custom Orthotics?
The difference in a custom orthotic and one from the store is that custom orthotics are made using a cast of your foot. When you come in for an appointment for the orthotic fitting, the staff will make a cast, impression or scan of your non-weight bearing feet and send it to an orthotic lab where exact replicas will be made of your feet.
How are Custom Orthotics Made?
The models of your feet are corrected using our measurements and diagnosis in order to correct the problem you are experiencing. The lab will then use specialized materials to custom design orthotics specifically for your feet.
Our labs are accredited by the Prescription Foot Orthotic Laboratories Association and the Prescription Footwear Association.
What Conditions are Treated with Orthotics?
Dr. Theofilos may recommend orthotics if you experience pain in your hips, ankles, feet, legs knees or back. The orthotics may be enough to resolve your symptoms, or Dr. Theofilos may recommend other treatments.
What Happens During a Consultation for Orthotics?
When used properly, orthotics can help a range of issues. However, when these devices are not used or molded properly, the patient may experience worsening or new problems. A consultation with Dr. Theofilos ensures orthotics are the best option for you and your custom orthotics are properly fitted to your foot and condition. A consultation takes one to three hours, and the orthotics may be designed during this appointment or a follow-up appointment.
After the consultation, we will provide cost information, as we understand affordability is a consideration for many people who seek the expertise of Dr. Theofilos. For your convenience, we bill insurance whenever possible, and we accept LendingUSA® as a financing option.
